GO GREEN

Make Earth – A Green House

A couple of decades ago when we used to talk about going green or ‘GREEN REVOLUTION' the term, in our minds automatically got related to the villages that is the rural areas only. Exercises like growing more and more crops, preserving our grass lands, irrigating properly and effectively, sensible rotation of crops to keep the soil fertile and intact, adequate use of fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides and many more. These concepts are to be obeyed today also but the fundamental definition of ‘GOING GREEN’ has totally changed in the modern, industrialized and high-tech savvy world. To go green has now become the responsibility more and more of the urban people as compared to the rural one.

Let us take the most current example which is in the headlines of newspapers all over the world ‘THE BROWN CLOUD’. It is a noxious cocktail of soot, smog and chemicals suspending in the atmosphere and hovering over a vast part of our earth. Scientist has declared that it is caused by urban pollution such as vehicle emissions, soot and burning of bio-fuels like wood and crops. Its impact below is really there atoning in numerous ways mainly.

- It has cut down the rice harvest by about 11%

- With less sunlight coming through the cloud, some of the biggest cities are under a haze and got darker by 10-25%

- It is causing melting of glaciers causing acute water shortage across the area below it.

- If this so called brown cloud mixes with the green house gases it will change the whether patterns and destroy the crops all over the world.

Doesn't it sound more devastating than terrorism or nuclear arm race or religious racial and regional conflicts?

Yes it does.
Whenever such subjects are talked about me quite simply blame the whole issue on to the welfare associations, civic and government organizations ( NGO’S), corporate houses and the UN sponsored agencies but do we ever think, what we as an individual are contributing towards the cause? Unfortunately we don't. But the now the time has come for us to think and act, Sooner the better.

‘GOING GREEN’ just does not restrict only to the pollution. It means much more than that for the urban people. It includes preservation and conservation of energy (both natural and man produced) and efficient utilization of water resources etc. The concepts is just not for ecological and biological. It concerns about the health of you and your family and well being of your generation to come.

I do not urge the modern city people to feel any type of bondage, compulsion or of any sort. Wear black, go blue in discotheque's and late night parties or go and paint the town red on your hard earned weekends but just please try to go green in your normal day to day activities. We should

- Plant and nurture plants and trees.

- Conserve water/ power everyday.

- Harvest rain water.

- Use compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’S) home, offices and everywhere.

- Install solar water heating/ lighting/cooking systems.

- Save oil/energy everyday.

- Switch to clean fuel like CNG for vehicles.

- Opt for battery operated systems rather than diesel combusted ones.

- Adopt green building technology.

- Segregate household garbage and make compost.

- Not burn leaves but makes compost

- Not litter but use dust bins.

- Use jute, paper or cloth bags instead of plastic bags

- Always dispose off the electronic waste safely and properly and

- Prefer walking shorter distances than using vehicles.

Friends, remember the game is not yet last. Never ever gets confused between one defeat and the final defeat. The time is not to panic but to act wisely with a cool head. A bit from me, a bit from you and bits from all of us can make the difference. There is no bigger room than the room for correction and improvement. Past is gone, think about the future.

EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY

EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY - SAVE OUR EARTH

Environmental protection is everyones job. We should keep our environment green, clean, safe and healthy.
The celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd began in the United States in 1970. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson. It is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. By 1990 Earth Day had become an international event. Environmental groups use Earth Day as an occasion to give attention to global environmental problems and to discuss solutions.

Earth day is a global celebration and reminds us what we are doing to save our mother earth. Environmental protection is everyone’s job. We should keep our environment green, clean, safe and healthy. We can teach our children how to love nature and how important it is to safeguard the world. Earth Day, a day dedicated to the environmental health of our planet. It is a special day to learn about to take care of the planet. We should always remember that everyday is earth day.

The biggest challenge that mankind is facing in this century is "global warming”. It is not an issue with the scientists alone; every individual can join hands in this global mission on "How to save our mother earth from global warming".

Common bad habits which make our environment unhealthy should be avoided. We can save our earth by get into the habit of eco friendly. We should all follow these habits into our day to day life to conserve our environment.

Save Electricity. Saving electricity helps the environment with less production. Saving electricity reduce air pollution. We can follow many ways that individuals and households can save electricity, thus contributing to a healthy and sustainable environment.

Save water. Don't keep taps running while cooking or washing dishes or other work. We should use right amount of water for your needs. It is important to save water at home statistics.

Keep environment clean. Sometimes people keep their environment very dirty with the result that it badly affects their health. Use less plastic bags and keep your environment clean safe and healthy. Use dustbins in around your area. Adopt good health habits to keep their environment healthy.Plant more trees. Trees alter the environment in which we live by moderating climate, improving air quality and conserving water.
Plant more trees, shrubs and add more potted plants around your area for a healthy environment. Trees improve our health by improving air quality Dear, listen up! This is a call for all. You are one of the first lines of defense in the environmental movement. Each and every one of us can contribute to making our environment healthier.

GROW TREES

A tree has feelings. It responds when hurt, Blooms and glooms when fed with manure and water but its heart break when neglected or more importantly being cut by man for its personal use. It serves man kind in innumerable ways. It gives food, protects environment, gives oxygen and retains soil erosion to name a few.All the hue and cry about damage to nature is centered around depletion of forests mainly trees. We have seen that and climate are two chief factors that influence tree resources.

The recommended minimum forest cover is about 33 % of total geographical area which has already come down to 29 % .In many countries including India the forest cover is as low as 20 % which is a great matter of concern.

The factors responsible for depletion of forest cover many and varied .They from region to region and country to country. They are:

1. Use of agric fuels

2. Hunting and poaching

3. Deforestation

4. Pollution

5. Economic exploitation and many other agents like soil erosion, floods extension of deserts and grazing by domestic animals.

Majority of these factors are governed by man and can be controlled by him in several may such as

1. Prevention of biodiversity

2. Sustainable resources use

3. Better quality of life, clean air and water

4. Aesthetic pleasure and most important replantation.

Just think that is one person plant just 10 trees in his whole life and nurture them a lot of problems concerning global warming and small ask but very crucial for the mankind.

Dear, when ever you eat a delicious fruit, open a wooden door or walk on a glittering wooden floor or write on a paper think a tree or trees has sacrificed their life. We live for our selves, they live for us. They can’t speak but the message is very clear. Plant more and more trees to better your own life. Act now or it will be very late. Time never returns. Trees do not incarnate, perhaps man does.

ACT NOW TO SAVE ENVIRONMENT

We as an individual want our houses clean and safe, But are we really concerned, collectively as human beings, about our habitat nature and environment endowed to us by nature? Unfortunately No. Actually we are slow poisoning our natural resources basically air, water, soil & plants.

AIR by polluting it. Industrialization is good for development, vehicles must to cope up with the fast life but the industrial waste and fuel carbon should be eliminated in such a way so that it does pollutes the air which contains oxygen the basic source of our life.

WATER by impuring it. Nature has provided a balanced water cycle to man, animals and plants to exist and survive . But then, we are disturbing this very cycle to harm our selves . Need of the hour is to Keep as pure as possible and avoid its misuse. Remember, earth is the only known planet to have water. Preserve and conserve it.

SOIL by degrading it or making it infertile by soil eroding, salivating and deforestration.Among them deforestation is the most concerning habit cutting trees for our personal, commercial and industrial use is essential but planting them more and more is more essential.Remember plants and trees are basis resources of our food directly or indirectly. They also give us oxygen and consume carbon dioxide breathed out by us.

The irony is that man is aware of all these facts but the lure of development leisure and comfort is stopping him to pressure, conserve and nurture the mother nature. We are curious to know about moon, mars and our other neighboring heavenly bodies and Spending billions & billions to conquer them but are knowingly neglecting our own planet and earth. Think, an individuals contribution in preserving our environment will be a step towards our goal of keeping it fit to live and live safe and healthy.
